NAUI FREEDIVER
Learn to freedive down to a maximum depth of 20m
This program teaches fundamental Freediving techniques for comfortable enjoyment in the aquatic world to depths of 20m. You will also practice Static Apnea to help develop your breath-holding abilities and in-water comfort.

Your NAUI Freediver course will cover fundamental topics such as:
• Essential Safety procedures for Breath-Holding at Freediver Level
• Proper Breathing Techniques for Freediving and Snorkeling
• Confined-Water skill development i.e. Static & Dynamic Apnea
• Open-Water skill development i.e. technique for Deep Diving!
• Equalization for Deep Diving
• Equipment for Freediving and Snorkeling
• The fundamental Physics & Physiology of Freediving—what happens to your body at depths!

FORMAT / DURATION 2-2.5 DAYS
This course is taught by highly trained Naui Instructors at locations all over the world. The Naui Freediver course includes:
• Classroom Sessions,
• Confined-Water Sessions, and
• Open-Water Sessions.
The schedule and layout/order of these sessions varies slightly by location. The program is typically run over 2/2.5 days depending on the location of your course.

PREREQUISITES
• Swimming or snorkeling experience
• Good health and fitness–see NAUI Medical Form
• 16 years of age

WHAT TO BRING
For this course, each diver is responsible for bringing his or her own equipment - We now have limited loan gear ( included in the cost ) for up to 5 students ( first come first serve )
• Mask & Snorkel
• Full Wetsuit (3mm for warm-water locations; 5mm for cold-water locations)
• Weight-Belt
• Freediving Fins
• Timing device or Dive Computer if available / timing device for statics would be at least a minimum requirement

Friday Evening Classroom 5:30-8:30/ 10:30
Saturday 1/2 day classroom, 1/2 day pool (8:00am-500pm) - this schedule may change to full day pool/ confined water/ students depending

NAUI SPEARFISHING COURSE


Want to learn how to successfully hunt and harvest fish from the ocean ? We will give you all the basics needed to start your journey into Spearfishing, based on our combined experience and resources that Derek and Matt have accumulated over the last decade. Learn from our NAUI freedive instructors that are actively and successfully Spearos .

The fundamentals of the course are laid out below. A prerequisite is to have decent freediving/ spearfishing and watermanship experience ( See below )

COST:
NAUI FREEDIVER SPEARFISHING & COLLECTING : R2500 ( includes NAUI Worldwide Certification & Card
( Excludes valid SA Post Office Spearfishing License & any rental gear needed )

Should we gauge the experience on the above not adequate, we would recommend enrolling in a Weekend Naui Freediving course to establish a proper baseline for safety and diving prior to any spearfishing course .

Practical requirements for the below course :

25m Dynamic underwater swim - no fins
1:30 breathold in water (minimum)
16 years of age (minimum)
No underlying medical conditions

NAUI FREEDIVER SPEARFISHING & COLLECTING / Course details :

Theory
Various gear for spearfishing and different applications
Local Conditions/ Dive sites
Fish hunting techniques & handling 101
Local rules and regulations ( marine reserves/ entry points etc )

Practical Lessons : confined water practicals & 1 x Open Water Spearfishing session ) Weather/ site dependent

Day 1 : Theory Session at Studio / training facility in Salt River then off to confined water ( shallow water ) for basic handling intro and practice session

Day 2 : Open water spearing session / site & weather dependent. Fish filleting techniques and ocean side fresh fish fillet braai to complete the day .

Brief outline :

Speargun handling, safety and loading
Direct supervision for duration of dive/ hunt
In Water tips and techniques for hunting various fish species
In water gear management and problem solving
Fish handling tips - practical supervision.

NAUI SCUBA COURSE

NAUI OPEN WATER SCUBA DIVER

This is an entry-level scuba certification course and is taught by highly trained NAUI Instructors at locations all over the world. You will learn the knowledge and skills needed to dive independently. After completing this course students will be able to participate in open water diving activities, up to a maximum depth of 18m without the need of supervision.



Your NAUI Open Water Scuba Diver courses will cover the foundational topics such as:

Equipment use and handling
Confined water skill development
Open water skill development
Rescue, Emergency and problem solving for scuba diving
Conservation and Reducing environmental impact

NAUI INTERMEDIATE FREEDIVER COURSE

Intermediate Freediver
Learn to freedive down to a maximum depth of 40m
The NAUI Intermediate Freediver course instructs competent and comfortable freedivers in essential safety and problem management for breath-hold diving, with a high emphasis on proper technique development. This program also includes details on training and equipment for diving to depths of 40 meters. Instructors will cover the following topics:

This course is taught by highly trained Instructors at locations all over the world.

The NAUI Intermediate Freediver course includes:

Classroom Sessions
2 Confined Water sessions
3 Open Water sessions

PREREQUISITES
Freediver course or equivalent experience with freediving, spearfishing, or scuba diving / accessed on a per diver basis (general comfort in the water up to 15m)
You have basic freediving experience and can achieve depths anywhere from 6–30m with relative comfort
You have a breath-hold time of around one minute or longer
Good health and fitness—check the Medical Form
12 years of age with guardian permission
Constant Ballast (unassisted freedive) of 6 meters

BASIC SNORKELING AND SCUBA EQUIPMENT CAN BE USED BUT WE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT FREEDIVING SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT IS USED FOR THIS INTERMEDIATE COURSE.

NAUI  FREEDIVER INSTRUCTOR COURSE

OVERVIEW AND QUALIFICATIONS

This is the entry-level Instructor certification course for individuals wishing to learn the fundamentals of teaching breath-hold diving for the purpose of increasing student underwater awareness.

The objective of this course is to train individuals in instructional skills and in the benefits, hazards, and proper procedures for entry-level breath hold diving instruction to a depth of 20m.

The Freediver Instructor certification is a formal NAUI leadership certification and membership classification. The NAUI Freediver Instructor certification provides recognition to NAUI Instructors who have completed a combination of training and evaluated experience specific to the preparing, training, evaluating and counseling of NAUI Freediver candidates.

Certified NAUI Freediving Instructor course graduates are qualified to apply for NAUI Freediving Instructor membership in any status provided for in the bylaws of the association.

PREREQUISITES

• Minimum age of 18 years
• Certified as a NAUI Intermediate Freediver or equivalent
• Be in good medical and physical condition
• Have above average swimming skills (as per NAUI Water Skills Evaluation). • Current certification of NAUI/DAN DFA Pro certification (or equivalent).

Upon successful completion of this Instructor course, graduates may engage in teaching NAUI Freediving courses, without supervision, including: Coaching Sessions, Open Line Diving, Skin Diver, Introduction to Freediving, Safe Buddy, and Freediver programs. NAUI Freediving Instructors can also teach the Skin Diving portion of a NAUI Open Water Scuba Diver course.

COURSE DURATION

• Academics classroom (estimated hours). 12 hours.

• Practical Application skills / MINIMUM REQUIRED HOURS. – 25 hours/ student dependent
This course will be completed in an approximate maximum time period of 2 months, subject to the qualifying students skills and ability.

SNORKELLING ADVENTURE

Join us for a snorkelling dive in False Bay to explore the beauty our coastline has to offer.

This is an entry level event outing aimed at the novice or beginner freediver.

Come hang in the kelp forests, chill and indulge in the vast array of fauna and flora in our diverse stretch of coast. False Bay never disappoints.

Meet at Glencairn False Bay, where we will have a briefing and equipment check. Thereafter we will proceed to a dive site along the coast that is suitable for all the divers, based on their collective experience.
